President William Ruto has announced a KSh44 billion development plan for Kisumu County, targeting the construction of 12,000 housing units, 20 new markets and hostels to accommodate 12,000 students.
Speaking in Kisumu, Ruto said the investment was part of the government’s broader commitment to ensuring that development reaches all parts of the country.
“I want you to listen to me carefully, Kisumu,” the President said, emphasising the scale of the planned projects.
“In this county of Kisumu, we have deployed KSh44 billion to build 12,000 housing units, 20 new markets, and hostels for 12,000 students.”
Ruto said Kisumu would play a central role in Kenya’s development agenda, adding that the government’s vision was to ensure that no region was left behind.
“We believe that as we develop Kenya, we must develop every part of the Republic, and Kisumu is going to be at the centre of that development journey,” the president said.
