One person has died and another remains missing after a boat they were travelling in sank in the Indian Ocean near Kizingitini, Lamu County.
Eight people were rescued after the boat, identified as MV Shukran, sank while travelling from Lamu to Somalia with a cargo on board.
The vessel reportedly developed a malfunction in its water-pumping system amid rough sea conditions, leading to its eventual sinking.
Search and rescue efforts for the missing person are ongoing, involving local residents, Kenya Red Cross officials and officers from the Lamu County Government.
