People’s Party of Kenya leader Ndindi Nyoro has welcomed a three-judge bench ruling that nullified the sale of the government’s 15 percent stake in Safaricom Plc, terming the transaction unconstitutional.
Speaking in Ewaso Kedong’ in Kajiado West during deliberations with Atumore Maasai elders, Nyoro said the shares should be restored to State ownership in line with the High Court ruling.
He urged the government to immediately halt the sale of public assets for what he termed personal gain, insisting that national resources must be managed in the best interests of Kenyans.
Nyoro said the Safaricom shares should instead be offered to Kenyan citizens, arguing that this would ensure the benefits remain within the country and contribute to national development.
The court found that the transaction failed to meet the requirements for meaningful public participation and involved the concealment or misrepresentation of material information regarding its nature and effects.
On politics, Nyoro called on President William Ruto to be prepared to hand over power to whoever Kenyans elect in the 2027 General Election.
He accused the administration of presiding over what he termed a deterioration of the country across various sectors, insisting that the will of the people must prevail and that the next government should prioritise Kenya’s development.
