Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has reaffirmed his support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Natembeya has declared Sifuna his preferred candidate for the presidency, saying the senator could contest under the United Democratic Party (UDP) ticket or through a coalition arrangement.
The governor’s position comes amid uncertainty over the political vehicle Sifuna and his allies will use after the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties rejected a proposal to rename UDP as Ukombozi People’s Party.
The Registrar cited the similarity between the proposed name and The Ukombozi Alliance, which had already been reserved by another applicant.
The decision has complicated efforts by the Sifuna-Natembeya camp to establish a political identity ahead of the 2027 elections.
Natembeya and Sifuna’s allies have indicated that alternative political parties remain under consideration as they work to secure a vehicle for their electoral plans.
