The Linda Mwananchi political movement has formally endorsed Nairobi Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
The decision was reached during a leadership meeting held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, as the movement sought to present a united front ahead of the election.
In a statement issued after the meeting, Linda Mwananchi said its leadership had resolved to work together around what it described as a common goal of responding to Kenyans seeking better governance.
The movement said Sifuna will lead the unveiling of the political party through which he will contest the presidency, with the launch expected in early October.
“Edwin Watenya Sifuna is our leader and Presidential Candidate,” the statement read.
Linda Mwananchi also said it would seek to form a coalition with like-minded political parties that share its stated commitment to the people of Kenya.
The endorsement settles, at least for now, questions over the movement's preferred presidential candidate, following recent discussions over competing political ambitions within the outfit. ([People Daily][1])
Sifuna's political vehicle has also been the subject of recent uncertainty.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya said earlier this week that Sifuna would contest the presidency through the United Democratic Party (UDP), with his formal unveiling expected in early October. ([Citizen][2])
The latest Linda Mwananchi resolution comes as the movement continues efforts to consolidate opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
The movement concluded its statement by reaffirming its unity and focus on the political work ahead.
