Kenya is seeking to attract global investors to its infrastructure development agenda, with the government targeting nearly KSh 5 trillion in investments over the next decade under the National Infrastructure Fund (NIF).
Speaking at the Alamein Africa Business Forum in Egypt, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretart Musalia Mudavadi held discussions with Tamer Shafik, Vice President for Business Development at Orascom Construction, on potential investment opportunities in Kenya.
The discussions focused on projects covering highways, railways, ports, energy, water, irrigation and digital connectivity, with the government seeking private-sector partnerships to bring in financing, technology and technical expertise.
Orascom Construction, which has more than 70 years of experience delivering major infrastructure projects across Africa and other markets, was encouraged to explore opportunities under Kenya’s development agenda.
The government says the planned investments are expected to improve connectivity and access to essential services while strengthening industries and creating jobs and business opportunities, particularly for young people.
The initiative is part of Kenya’s broader push to mobilise private capital for major infrastructure projects as the country seeks to accelerate economic growth.
The government says its ambition is to develop infrastructure that connects communities, supports economic activity and lays the foundation for Kenya’s next phase of growth.
