Wiper Patriotic Front leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has called for the protection of the legacy of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying the ideals he championed during his political career should be safeguarded.
Kalonzo spoke during a church service at ACK St Michael and All Angels Cathedral in Bondo, Siaya County, where he led a delegation of opposition leaders.
He was accompanied by DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, DP Party leader JB Muturi and former Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju.
Kalonzo reflected on his long political association with Raila, recalling the different political formations they worked through and his support for Raila's presidential bids.
He said he supported Raila because he believed in his political message and had done what he could to support his efforts to become president.
Kalonzo also criticised recent references by the Kenya Kwanza administration to Raila as a "project", arguing that the late opposition leader was no longer on the ballot and should not be drawn into current political contests.
He described Raila as a leader who, in his view, was denied the presidency through electoral manipulation.
Kalonzo further invoked the Constitution's recognition of Kenyans who struggled for freedom and justice, saying both Raila and his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, represented that struggle across generations.
He also credited Raila with advocating for development across the country without discrimination and described devolution as one of the legacies associated with his political career.
Kalonzo paid tribute to the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Bondo, Rt Rev Prof David Kodia, recalling his sermon during Raila's state funeral in October 2025.
He said the bishop's remarks had captured the relationship he had shared with Raila, despite not having been given an opportunity to speak about it during the funeral proceedings.
Tuju, in his remarks, urged Kalonzo to maintain his engagement with residents of Bondo and the wider Nyanza region, recalling his political association with Raila over the years.
Kalonzo thanked residents of Bondo and Nyanza for their reception and said he would continue engaging with the region as part of the opposition's political activities.
