The Ukombozi Alliance has welcomed former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s resignation from the leadership of the Azimio La Umoja–One Kenya Coalition, while assuring supporters that the move will not affect the party’s leadership or direction.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Ukombozi Alliance Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka thanked Kenyatta for his leadership of the coalition and acknowledged his decision to step down from his position with immediate effect.
Kalonzo said Kenyatta’s decision was consistent with the former President’s call for renewal and his view that political coalitions should remain broad and inclusive.
He said Kenyatta had contributed his stature, counsel and name to the political movement at a time when the defence of democracy required courage.
Kalonzo also clarified that Kenyatta’s resignation was from the position of Chair of the Council and did not affect the office of Party Leader.
“The Party Leader and the Chair of Council are two distinct offices, and they have never been one and the same,” Kalonzo said.
He explained that the Chair of Council was a coalition-level position focused on counsel, convening and guidance, while the Party Leader is the political and executive head of the party.
Kalonzo said he remains the Party Leader and that there is therefore “no vacuum at the helm” of Ukombozi Alliance.
He further announced that the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties had reserved the name The Ukombozi Alliance (TUA) for the party.
According to Kalonzo, the party is now undertaking the remaining compliance requirements following the reservation of the name and will update the public as the process progresses.
He urged members, supporters and partners to remain calm, united and focused, saying the party's “road to 2027” remains clear.
Kalonzo also said the party would continue to honour its commitment to those who built the coalition and Kenyans awaiting political change.
“We are WANTAM, WANTEAM and WANCOALITION. Together we shall Komboa Kenya,” he said.
Kalonzo added that Kenyatta remains a committed member of the Azimio family and will be invited for an official visit during which a handover ceremony will take place.
