Mombasa City’s reputation as a burgeoning investment hub was further solidified with the recent hosting of the Global Women’s Voice Conference. This high-level event drew together prominent local and international leaders, underscoring the city's growing significance on the global stage. The conference, organized by Pure Pearl Foundation, Swahili Pot, and Mombasa County, among other partners, took place at the Swahili Pot. It served as a platform for stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions on the education and economic empowerment of girls and women.
The conference, themed 'Unleash Her Ability,' was a vibrant forum for learning and exchanging ideas. Participants shared experiences and debated strategies to maximize the potential of entrepreneurial women and youths, with a particular emphasis on Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). The event highlighted the importance of empowering women economically and educationally, recognizing their critical role in driving economic growth and social change.
Lul Abdulwahid, Chairperson of the Pure Pearl Foundation, emphasized the organization's commitment to providing opportunities for vulnerable women and children across Africa. She noted that the foundation aims to help them achieve their dreams through education and economic empowerment. This mission is pursued through various initiatives, including supporting out-of-school girls, improving livelihoods through sustainable agriculture, and advocating for equal opportunities.
Key speakers at the conference included Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, among other experts. Their presence underscored the importance of the issues discussed and the global interest in empowering women and girls.
The Pure Pearl Foundation, a charitable organization, plays a pivotal role in these efforts. It focuses on supporting and retaining out-of-school girls by sensitizing and supporting vulnerable households. The foundation also works to improve livelihoods through sustainable agriculture and the provision of sanitary pads to schools. Furthermore, it champions access to equal opportunities through advocacy, vocational training, and encouraging active participation in socio-economic activities. By building networks, the foundation aims to create more opportunities for young adults, connecting them with professional mentors to navigate existing risks and opportunities.
The Global Women’s Voice Conference not only highlighted the challenges faced by women and girls but also celebrated their potential and contributions to society. It reinforced the importance of continued efforts to empower women, ensuring they have the tools and opportunities needed to thrive in today's world.
