Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says he has used his time in Texas, United States, to refresh his weapon-handling and basic combat skills.
Taking to X, Gachagua said he had taken the opportunity to practise skills he acquired earlier in life while serving in the security sector. His experience in the security field has been a significant part of his life, and he believes that these skills are crucial, especially in today's challenging environment.
He also said he had his spouse, Rev. Dorcas Gachagua, undergo basic self-defence training, citing what he described as difficult times in Kenya and the prevalence of “goonism.” This term refers to the increasing incidents of violence and intimidation that have been reported in various parts of the country. Gachagua's emphasis on self-defence training for his spouse underscores his concern for safety in a climate where such threats appear to be on the rise.
Gachagua said they were joined during the practice by former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Gathiru, popularly known as MejjaDonk, and former Starehe MP James Gakuya. The involvement of these former legislators highlights a collective approach to addressing security concerns, as they too recognize the importance of being prepared for potential challenges.
According to Gachagua, the training was intended to strengthen his team and prepare them for what he described as challenges they may encounter as they engage with Kenyans. He believes that being well-prepared is essential for effective leadership, especially as the DCP aims to connect with citizens and address their needs in the lead-up to the next elections.
The former Deputy President, who has increasingly positioned the DCP as an alternative political vehicle ahead of the 2027 General Election, concluded his message with the slogan, “The Future is Green,” and wished Kenya well. This slogan reflects his vision for a sustainable and prosperous future for the country, aligning with the DCP's broader goals as they seek to establish themselves as a viable option for voters in the upcoming electoral cycle.
