A Form Four student is receiving treatment at Tenwek Hospital after she was allegedly attacked and seriously injured by a fellow female student in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County, over a suspected love triangle.
Arorwet Location Chief Rose Bii said the victim, Tracy Chepng’etich, who is 17, sustained deep injuries to her neck after she was allegedly slashed with a panga by her schoolmate, Mercy Chepkemoi, also 17.
According to the chief, the incident occurred along a road near the victim’s home, where the suspect allegedly waylaid her before attacking her.
Chepng’etich was rushed to Tenwek Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
Speaking to The News Booth, Chief Bii said both girls are students at Arorwet Comprehensive School.
Preliminary accounts suggest the attack may have stemmed from a dispute involving a boy who was allegedly romantically involved with both students.
A close friend, who declined to be recorded, claimed the suspect became aware of the alleged relationship between the boy and the victim, triggering the confrontation.
“The boy was secretly involved in a double love affair, and learning that the other girl was also involved with her boyfriend prompted her to take action,” the friend reportedly said.
Police have since arrested Chepkemoi in connection with the incident. She is being held at Kiptagich Police Station as investigations continue.
Investigators are expected to establish the circumstances leading to the attack and determine the appropriate legal action.
The incident has renewed concerns about violence among school-going teenagers and the risks of personal disputes escalating into serious physical confrontations.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the investigation or the victim’s current condition.
The suspect remains in police custody as detectives pursue the case. The allegations against her have not been tested in court, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain subject to investigation.
