An escaped prisoner has been sentenced to death after being rearrested in Kawangware, Nairobi.
Alex Kibisu was handed the sentence by Senior Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul after being found guilty in a case in which he had escaped from custody while facing robbery with violence charges.
Kibisu was arrested in Riruta on Sunday, November 27, 2026, after a disagreement with a matatu conductor over fare.
He was taken to Riruta Police Station, where officers identified him as the wanted escapee.
Kibisu had escaped from Kibera Law Courts in November 2023 and his escape led to the interdiction of six prison officers.
He was already serving a death sentence in a separate robbery case when he escaped.
Following the latest court decision, Kibisu was taken to Kamiti Maximum Prison under heavy security.
Police officers maintained tight security around the courtroom and during his transfer.
Police had listed Kibisu among wanted criminals following his escape from custody.
