Celebrated gospel deejay Samuel Muraya, popularly known as DJ Mo, has been charged in a Nairobi court over alleged traffic offences following an early morning encounter with police officers along Thika Road.

Muraya appeared before the court on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, where he was presented with three charges arising from an incident that reportedly occurred near Roasters along Thika Road.

According to the prosecution, the entertainer was stopped by police officers at approximately 8:55 am while driving his Jaguar, registration number KCH 065T.

The first charge accuses Muraya of driving the vehicle without an active third-party insurance cover, contrary to the provisions of the Insurance (Motor Vehicle Third Party Risks) Act.

Prosecutors further allege that he did not have a valid insurance certificate displayed on the vehicle at the time he was stopped by the officers.

The second count relates to the alleged failure to display the required insurance documentation, an obligation imposed on motorists under the law.

In a separate charge, the gospel DJ is accused of disobeying a lawful order issued by a police officer during the roadside encounter.

The court heard that Corporal Chelimo, who was reportedly in uniform at the time, directed Muraya to drive the Jaguar to a police station.

However, the prosecution alleges that Muraya declined to comply with the officer’s instructions and instead proceeded towards Thika.

The alleged conduct forms the basis of the third charge, which is brought under the Traffic Act.

The case stems from the police encounter earlier in the day, which resulted in the entertainer being presented before a Nairobi court to answer to the charges.

The charges place the gospel DJ under scrutiny over compliance with road safety and traffic regulations, particularly the legal requirement for motorists to maintain valid third-party insurance and obey lawful instructions issued by police officers.

Muraya is widely recognised in Kenya’s gospel entertainment industry, where he has built a name as one of the country’s celebrated gospel DJs.
