Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Kassim Abdi Sebu over his alleged involvement in violence witnessed during the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay County on August 16, 2026.
Sebu was arrested last night at his hideout in Homa Bay Town bus park, more than a month after he reportedly went underground following police orders for him to surrender to investigators.
Homa Bay County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Jimmy Kisobo said Sebu had an active warrant of arrest after detectives linked him to the disturbances witnessed during the political rally and incidents of property damage reported in Homa Bay Town on August 15, a day before the event.
In August, the National Police Service (NPS) directed Sebu to report to the DCI's Homa Bay County headquarters to assist with investigations into the violence.
In a statement at the time, the police service said investigations had linked him to the unrest witnessed during the Linda Mwananchi tour on August 16, 2026.
The violence prompted a security crackdown in Homa Bay and neighbouring areas, with police arresting 37 suspected gang members found in possession of crude weapons over the weekend.
According to the Police Service, 12 suspects in Homa Bay had taken plea and were released on various bond terms, while two others were being investigated over gun-related incidents.
In Kisumu, a total of fifteen suspects who were arrested with crude weapons on the eve of a rally were also presented in court.
The latest arrest comes as detectives continue investigating the incidents surrounding the political tour and the damage reported in Homa Bay Town.
Sebu's alleged role in the incidents remains subject to investigation, and the detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have not announced the outcome of the ongoing inquiries.
Meanwhile, the suspect will remain in police custody as investigations continue.
