Como produced a historic performance to demolish Lens 9-1 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, equalling the competition's biggest winning margin and strengthening their position in the league-phase standings.

Cesc Fàbregas' side became the first team in the competition's current league phase to score nine goals in a single match, with seven different players finding the net at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Anastasios Douvikas led the scoring with a hat-trick, while Nico Paz, Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali, Martin Baturina and teenage debutant Matteo Papaccioli also got on the scoresheet.

Como needed just seven minutes to take control of the encounter when Douvikas opened the scoring after being set up by Máximo Perrone. The Greek striker doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute before Nico Paz made it 3-0 five minutes before half-time.

The visitors continued their dominance immediately after the restart, with Da Cunha extending the lead in the 47th minute. Kempf added a fifth six minutes later before Douvikas completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute.

Mattia Liberali made it seven in the 62nd minute, scoring his first Champions League goal, as Lens struggled to contain Como's attacking movement.

The hosts briefly responded through Ruben Aguilar, who scored in the 67th minute, but their consolation did little to change the outcome.

Martin Baturina restored Como's seven-goal advantage two minutes later before 18-year-old Matteo Papaccioli completed the rout in stoppage time, scoring on his European debut after coming through the club's youth academy.

The victory equalled the biggest winning margin in Champions League history, placing Como alongside the previous record holders with an eight-goal difference. It also marked their first away victory in their European campaign.

Douvikas was named Player of the Match after taking his Champions League tally to six goals, making him the competition's leading scorer at that stage.

The result also strengthened Como's position in their debut Champions League campaign. Their third victory in four league-phase matches lifted them to fourth place with nine points, putting them among the teams occupying the automatic Round of 16 qualification positions.

Speaking after the match, Fàbregas celebrated his players' performance but urged them to remain grounded despite the historic scoreline.

"It's a happy night, today everything went our way," the Como manager told Sky Sport Italia.

He praised his players but warned against becoming carried away by the result, stressing the importance of maintaining their standards.

"It's a beautiful night for Como and for everyone, but we must keep our feet on the ground, have great humility and continue working," he added.

Fàbregas also expressed frustration at conceding Lens' only goal, although he acknowledged the quality of Aguilar's finish. The defender had previously played alongside the Como manager at Monaco.

Como will now turn their attention to domestic action, with a Serie A meeting against Inter Milan scheduled for Sunday, November 8, before returning to their Champions League campaign.
