Charlene Ruto wins temporary court orders against Standard
The High Court has issued interim orders stopping the Standard Group from repeating, republishing and reposting the allegations linking President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, to the procurement of Kenya Police Service uniforms.
The orders followed an application filed by Charlene challenging a Standard publication dated August 30, 2026, which included a front-page feature titled “THE TRAIL…” and a page six story headlined “Police uniform tender trail links Alusala teacher and First Family.”
Through her lawyers, Charlene argued that the reports linked her to the alleged KSh2.8 billion Kenya Police Service uniform procurement.
“The publications expressly associated me with the alleged KSh2.8 billion Kenya Police Service uniform procurement and created an impression that I participated in the procurement.”said charlene
According to the court documents, the National Police Service later clarified that Nalitex Limited did not participate in the procurement process.
The service said the company was not awarded the contract and did not receive a purchase order or payment relating to the tender.
Charlene said she had served the Standard with a written demand and right of reply seeking a correction, retraction and apology and argued that the reports remained available online and could continue to be circulated and republished.
She asked the court to stop the Standard from repeating or republishing the allegations unless supported by verified evidence showing her actual participation in or benefit from the procurement.
She also asked the court to order the Standard to remove the online versions of the reports or place a clear corrective notice on them.
The court granted interim prayer number two of the Notice of Motion, stopping further dissemination of the contested allegations.
The respondents have been given seven days to file their responses to the application.
The matter will come up for mention on October 19,2026 for further directions.
