Two suspects have been arrested in Kisumu following a dramatic chase by detectives investigating a series of robberies involving Toyota Prado vehicles.
The arrests were made on the night of October 27, 2026, during a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) operation targeting individuals linked to the alleged crimes.
The suspects were reportedly traced while travelling in a Toyota Prado registration number KDX 642Y, which investigators had linked to an earlier robbery involving another Prado, registration number KDK 440K.
The earlier incident occurred on October 23, 2026, when five people returning from a social outing were allegedly robbed. The incident prompted investigations as detectives sought to identify those responsible.
The probe gained momentum after CCTV footage reportedly helped investigators trace the registration number of the vehicle linked to the earlier robbery, providing detectives with a lead as they pursued the suspects.
During the operation, officers reportedly pursued the suspects through Kisumu town before opening fire at their vehicle. Another suspect who attempted to escape was also arrested, although details surrounding the individual’s alleged role were not immediately available.
The incident happened near the Kisumu Boys roundabout at about 9pm, as detectives moved to apprehend those suspected of involvement in the robberies.
The suspects are also accused of stealing a mobile phone from a woman in the Airport area of Kisumu. Detectives are investigating the alleged theft alongside the robbery incidents to establish whether the suspects were involved in other offences.
Investigators are expected to examine the available evidence, record statements and establish the circumstances surrounding the incidents, including the alleged connection between the two Toyota Prados.
The two suspects are being held at Kisumu Central Police Station as investigations continue. Police are expected to determine whether further arrests are necessary as they pursue additional leads.
The arrests mark a development in the investigation, but the allegations against the suspects remain unproven.
