Kenyan distance-running star Agnes Ngetich has won gold at the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen after clocking 1:05:15 to break the women’s-only half marathon world record.
Ngetich produced another commanding performance using her trademark aggressive front-running style to storm to the women’s World Half Marathon title, adding another major achievement to her rapidly rising career.
The victory marks her second global title of the year after she won the World Cross Country title in January.
Born on January 23, 2001, Ngetich has established herself as one of the leading figures in global distance running. She is currently ranked number one in the world in the women’s 10,000 metres and road running, while holding the number 16 position in the women’s 5,000 metres.
The Kenyan is also a two-time world-record holder and has twice finished among the top eight at the World Championships.
Ngetich’s personal bests include a 28:46 world record, African record and national record over 10 kilometres on the road, set on January 14, 2024. She has also recorded 8:08.95 over 3,000 metres, achieved on July 10, 2026, and 14:01.29 in the 5,000 metres, set on July 5, 2025.
Her latest triumph in Copenhagen further underlines her emergence as one of Kenya’s leading stars in long-distance running and adds another world title to an already impressive list of achievements.
