At least 11 people have been injured after a gunman opened fire outside a high school in Manisa, western Turkey, before fleeing the scene.
The shooting occurred at around 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday outside Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School.
The local governor’s office confirmed that the suspected attacker had been detained. However, the motive for the shooting remains unknown.
Turkish media reports indicate that two of the injured victims were in critical condition after being taken to hospital.
CCTV footage circulating online appears to show a man carrying a firearm on a street near the school, while other footage reportedly captures him fleeing the area with the weapon.
Local media have also reported that the suspect is a 15-year-old student, although authorities have not officially confirmed his age or identity.
In a statement, Turkey’s Ministry of Education said the incident had “deeply saddened our nation, and our educational community in particular.”
