The Umoja Summit Party of Kenya (USP-K) has unveiled an ambitious plan to recruit new members nationwide, aiming to revitalize its image and bolster its grassroots support ahead of the 2027 general elections. The announcement was made by the party's Secretary General, Barrack Muluka, during a launch event held in Kilifi town. Muluka emphasized that the recruitment drive is designed to offer Kenyans from all regions an opportunity to join the party, thereby strengthening its presence and influence across the country.
Muluka outlined that the recruitment exercise is part of a broader strategy to rejuvenate and reenergize USP-K's grassroots structures. This initiative is seen as a long-term plan to position the party as a formidable force in Kenyan politics. "As USP-K, we have planned vigorous grassroots activities with the intention of positioning it as the party of choice ahead of the next poll," Muluka stated. He noted the importance of engaging with the expanding voting population, as more young people reach voting age.
In a bid to modernize its membership process, USP-K will implement digital registration, allowing potential members to sign up online. Muluka urged Kenyans to take advantage of this initiative, highlighting the party's commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. "I am appealing to all of you to register as members of this great party. Very soon, we will embark on a countrywide tour covering all 47 counties in preparation for the 2027 polls. Our website is also open to all members," he added.
This strategic move is expected to enhance USP-K's visibility and provide the necessary momentum for its political endeavors in 2027. The party aims to capitalize on the growing political engagement among Kenyans, particularly the youth, who are increasingly becoming a significant demographic in electoral processes.
Deputy Secretary General Naomi Cidi further elaborated on the party's plans, stating that USP-K intends to field candidates for all elective positions, with the exception of the presidency. "As USP-K, our time for politics and campaigns is now, and we shall have our candidates in all positions except for the president. Let us come out and register as members because this is the political party of inclusivity. We want everybody to be part of USP-K," Cidi affirmed.
The recruitment drive and the party's strategic focus on inclusivity and grassroots engagement underscore USP-K's commitment to establishing itself as a key player in Kenya's political landscape. As the 2027 elections approach, the party's efforts to expand its membership base and strengthen its organizational structures will be crucial in determining its success.
