Three people are feared dead following a serious road accident along Ngong Road, opposite Talanta Stadium near Lenana School in Nairobi, with the driver of one of the vehicles allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

The crash reportedly left one vehicle engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from its wreckage and causing panic among people near the scene.

According to eyewitnesses, three people are believed to have died in the accident, although the reported death toll and the condition of those involved are yet to be officially confirmed by the relevant authorities.

Images from the scene show a badly damaged vehicle burning, with other vehicles visible nearby.

Police officers and rescue teams were reported to be heading to the scene to respond to the incident, which caused traffic disruption along Ngong Road.

The allegation that the driver was intoxicated has raised concerns about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, which can impair concentration, slow reaction times and affect decision-making, increasing the risk of serious road accidents.

The incident comes amid continued public concern over road safety in Kenya, following reports of other serious accidents in recent days.

Among them was a crash reported in the Salgaa area along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway, raising concerns about the safety of motorists and passengers using one of the country’s major transport routes.

The incidents highlight the importance of motorists observing traffic regulations, avoiding excessive speed and refraining from consuming alcohol before driving.

Road safety experts have consistently emphasised the need for drivers to ensure they are fit to drive and to prioritise the safety of passengers and other road users.

However, the official cause of the Ngong Road crash, the identities of those involved and the allegation concerning the driver’s condition remain unconfirmed pending an official statement from the police.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution on the roads and report traffic violations to the relevant authorities to help prevent avoidable accidents.
