President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto have attended a reception hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Moscow Kremlin for heads of delegations attending the third Russia-Africa Summit.
The Head of State is in Moscow, Russia, where he is participating in engagements aimed at strengthening diplomatic, economic and development cooperation between Kenya and Russia.
The President also attended the plenary exhibition at the Russia-Kenya Economic and Humanitarian Forum, co-chaired by Putin and Burundi President Évariste Ndayishimiye, who is also the African Union Chairperson.
The forum brings together leaders and other stakeholders to explore opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, technology, education and humanitarian affairs.
Ruto said the longstanding relationship between Russia and Africa provides an opportunity to establish a stronger economic and development partnership as African countries seek a greater role in the global economy.
The relationship dates back to the period when several African countries were fighting for independence, with Russia contributing to the development of scientific, educational and technical capabilities across the continent.
The President said the partnership should now build on that history by expanding Africa's participation in global markets, manufacturing, scientific research, innovation and technological development.
He noted that Africa has an opportunity to strengthen its position in the industries and institutions shaping the future of the global economy.
Kenya's participation in the Russia-Kenya Economic and Humanitarian Forum is expected to provide a platform for discussions on areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment and skills development.
The engagements come as African countries seek to diversify their international partnerships and attract investment to support economic growth, industrialisation and technological advancement.
The Russia-Africa Summit provides a platform for African leaders and Russian officials to discuss their shared interests and identify opportunities for deeper cooperation.
Ruto's engagements in Moscow are part of Kenya's broader diplomatic efforts to strengthen international partnerships and expand economic opportunities beyond traditional markets.
