Two men have been arrested in Mombasa over suspected motorcycle theft, with police recovering two motorcycles and a television believed to have been stolen. The arrests highlight ongoing concerns regarding motorcycle theft in the region, prompting police to intensify their investigative efforts.
The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Hassan Mohammed Juma and 30-year-old Aggrey Joel Enonda, were apprehended in Kiembeni-Ugatuzi following a series of investigations into motorcycle theft reported at Mtwapa Police Station. This area has seen a rise in such criminal activities, leading law enforcement to prioritize these cases.
According to police reports, the investigation into the thefts led officers to a location about eight kilometres southwest of Mtwapa Police Station. It was here that they recovered two motorcycles suspected to have been stolen. The recovered bikes included a Boxer motorcycle that bore a registration number, while the second, a red Haojin motorcycle, was found without any registration number, raising further suspicions about its ownership and legality.
In addition to the motorcycles, a further search at the suspected hideout of the arrested men yielded a television believed to have been stolen. This discovery points to a broader pattern of theft that may extend beyond motorcycles, as the television adds to the list of stolen goods that may have been targeted by the suspects. Officers also seized two machetes, a military belt, military shorts, a pair of brown military boots, and a new bag during the search, indicating that the suspects may have been involved in other criminal activities as well.
The items recovered from the hideout have been kept as exhibits as investigations continue. Law enforcement officials are working diligently to trace the ownership of the stolen motorcycles and the television, and to determine if the suspects are connected to other reported thefts in the area. The two suspects are currently being held at Mtwapa Police Station as they await arraignment in court, where they will face charges related to the thefts.
