Three people were killed by an angry mob in Ombeyi, Muhoroni Sub-County, after they allegedly attempted to rob locals of mobile phones and other valuables at Ombeyi Market. Two other suspects narrowly escaped death and are receiving treatment in serious condition at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH). According to a police report, the five were part of a larger group escorting the body of a deceased person from a Kisumu mortuary to Kasese in Muhoroni. This practice of body escorting has become common in the region, often involving large groups of people. Police said the group had earlier attempted to rob residents in Chiga before officers intervened.
