Police have arrested a robbery suspect and recovered several mobile phones believed to have been stolen during criminal incidents in Nairobi's Kibra area, amid growing concerns over phone theft and street robberies in the capital.

The suspect was apprehended on Saturday, October 10, 2026, during an operation conducted by officers operating under the Kilimani Sub-County police command in the Karanja area of Kibra.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the suspect is linked to a series of criminal activities reported within the Nairobi West sub-region, where residents have raised concerns over the safety of their property and personal security.

During the operation, officers recovered several mobile phones from the suspect's possession.

Police said some of the recovered devices have already been positively identified by their rightful owners, raising hopes that more victims could be reunited with their stolen property.

The suspect was escorted to Kibra Police Station, where he remains in custody pending processing and arraignment in court to face relevant charges.

The arrest comes amid persistent concerns over mobile phone theft in Nairobi, with residents at risk of losing their devices to street robbers and other criminals.

Stolen phones can expose victims to further risks, including unauthorised access to personal information, mobile money accounts and other sensitive data.

Phone theft also imposes a financial burden on victims, many of whom depend on their devices for communication, work, business transactions and access to essential services.

The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and improving security across the country.

Police have also urged members of the public to report suspicious activities and share information that could help officers identify suspects and recover stolen property.

Residents with information can contact the nearest police station or use the toll-free numbers 999 and 911. They can also reach the Directorate of Criminal Investigations through #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.

The police have encouraged anyone who may have lost a mobile phone in the area to report the incident and liaise with investigators to establish whether their device is among those recovered.
