A routine prison visit at Ruai Police Station took an unexpected turn after officers allegedly discovered tools hidden beneath a plate of rice intended for three remanded suspects.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), 18-year-old Christine Njoki Gitau arrived at the station carrying rice and meat, claiming she wanted to deliver the meal to three friends in custody.
The suspects—Emmanuel Bosire, Ismael Arisa and Brian Gatheru—are being held over allegations of robbery with violence and gang rape.
The three are also accused of operating an anonymous TikTok account allegedly used to lure young women into meetings before robbing them of their valuables.
However, the visit raised suspicion when officers inspected the food. Hidden beneath the meal, they reportedly found a pair of pliers and a shear, which investigators believe were intended to help the suspects escape custody.
Gitau was subsequently arrested, as detectives began investigating whether other individuals may have been involved in the alleged plan.
The DCI has warned members of the public that aiding or attempting to aid an escape from lawful custody is a criminal offence punishable under the law.
