Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been unveiled as the leader of The Equitable Party (TEP) and its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna was formally introduced as the party leader during the launch held in Nairobi on Sunday, October 4, 2026, as he begins a new political chapter ahead of the next General Election.

The event brought together several prominent politicians from across the country.

Among those present were Siaya Governor James Orengo and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya. Senators Godfrey Osotsi, Richard Onyonka and Boni Khalwale also attended the event.

Several Members of Parliament were present, including Babu Owino, Caroli Omondi, Patrick Makau, Antony Kibagendi, Jack Wamboka and Majimbo Kalasinga.

Former Tharaka Nithi Governor Kawira Mwangaza was also among the leaders who attended the launch.

Sifuna’s decision to lead TEP gives him a new platform from which to pursue his presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 polls.

The move comes at a time when political leaders are positioning themselves and forming new alliances as the country moves closer to the next General Election.

TEP is a fully registered political party, with the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties listing it among Kenya’s registered parties.

The party’s slogan is “Tusawazishe.”

The presence of governors, senators and MPs at the launch highlights the interest surrounding Sifuna’s decision, although it remains to be seen how the political relationships around TEP will develop as the 2027 election approaches.
