More than 121,000 youths have been arrested and imprisoned since 2022 to date.
According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, the youths have been jailed for various offences, including radicalisation, hooliganism and robbery with violence.
Murkomen says Nyeri County has recorded the highest number, with more than 8,000 youths imprisoned, followed by Nairobi with 7,000 and Embu with more than 4,000.
Murkomen says the government has put in place measures to reduce the number of young people being sent to prison by introducing projects aimed at benefiting them and improving their economic livelihoods.
He says the government has also put in place measures to combat drug abuse, which he says is contributing to the rising number of youths engaging in criminal activities.
