Kwale County Governor Salim Mvurya has issued a stern warning to contractors who fail to meet project deadlines, stating that they risk being blacklisted. This announcement was made during the launch of the second phase of a significant fruits processing plant in Kwale County. The governor expressed his dissatisfaction with the slow progress of some contractors, noting that the completion of the first phase had been unnecessarily delayed. He urged all contractors who have been awarded tenders to expedite their work to ensure timely completion.

Governor Mvurya emphasized the importance of the fruits processing plant, which is a flagship project aimed at boosting the local economy. He encouraged local farmers to prepare to supply fruits to the factory once it becomes operational. To support this initiative, the county government plans to distribute free fruit seedlings to farmers after they undergo training. This move is expected to enhance agricultural productivity and provide a steady supply of raw materials for the plant.

Kubo South Assistant County Commissioner Simon Waithungu highlighted the collaborative effort between the county and national government in facilitating this project. He noted that the fruits processing plant is designed to improve service delivery to the local community, thereby enhancing the region's economic prospects. The project is seen as a pivotal development in Kwale County, promising to uplift the livelihoods of many residents.

Additionally, the project committee chair, Sammy Tole, pointed out the employment opportunities that have arisen from the project. He stated that a significant number of youths have already been employed during the construction phase, and more job opportunities are expected once the plant is fully operational by November this year. This development is anticipated to reduce unemployment rates and provide a stable source of income for many families in the area.

The fruits processing plant is part of a broader strategy to promote industrial growth and agricultural development in Kwale County. By addressing the issue of inefficient contractors, Governor Mvurya aims to ensure that such projects are completed on time and within budget, thereby maximizing their benefits to the community. The initiative underscores the county government's commitment to fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for its residents.
