Mombasa Sports Club Rugby has secured a Sh4.5 million sponsorship deal with logistics firm Mitchell Cotts Freight Kenya Limited, providing a major financial boost as the Coast club pursues a return to the Kenya Cup.

The three-year agreement will cover the 2026/27, 2027/28 and 2028/29 seasons, with Mitchell Cotts committing Sh1.5 million annually after becoming the club's title sponsor.

The partnership expands an existing relationship between the two organisations, following the company's involvement as Mombasa Rugby's official kit sponsor during the 2025/26 season.

Under the new arrangement, Mitchell Cotts' branding will feature prominently on the front of the senior men's 15s and sevens playing kits. The agreement also provides the company with match-day, digital and community rugby branding rights.

The sponsorship will contribute towards the club's operational and match-related expenses, including players' travel, accommodation, meals, equipment and other match-day requirements.

Mombasa Rugby chairman Rogers Otieno Lai welcomed the expanded partnership, saying the financial backing would strengthen the club's efforts to regain its place in the country's top domestic rugby competition.

"We thank Mitchell Cotts for standing with us, first on our shirts and now as our title sponsor. This is a big boost as we rally the club back to the Kenya Cup. Partnerships like this are how we get there," he said.

Mitchell Cotts Group General Manager for Commercial Maina Kio said the decision to upgrade the company's involvement reflected its confidence in the club and its commitment to supporting communities where it operates.

"Our journey with Mombasa Rugby started on the shirt and the club has shown the discipline and transparency we look for in a partner. Stepping up to title sponsor reflects our commitment to the communities where we operate. We are proud to back the team on the road back to the Kenya Cup," Kio said.

Listen Media Director Teddy Ndemo, whose agency manages the club's commercial rights, also highlighted the importance of the expanded agreement in providing sustained commercial support for the team.

The partnership will extend beyond the senior men's teams to Mombasa Rugby's age-grade and community rugby programme, which provides young players along the Coast with opportunities to develop their skills and progress into competitive rugby.

The programme operates under a safeguarding policy intended to promote the welfare and protection of young players.

On the pitch, Mombasa Rugby is preparing for the 2026/27 Kenya Rugby Championship, which is scheduled to begin on November 21, 2026, with an away fixture against coastal rivals South Coast Pirates.

The competition will feature 11 matches and run until March 13, 2027, with Mombasa scheduled to host five fixtures at Mombasa Sports Club.

The campaign will be an important test for the Coast outfit as it seeks to strengthen its position in the domestic rugby structure and work towards promotion to the Kenya Cup.

The three-season sponsorship gives the club financial support across multiple campaigns, while also extending Mitchell Cotts' involvement into its community and player development activities.
