The Kenyan shilling was quoted at KSh129.75 against the US dollar in the Central Bank of Kenya’s (CBK) daily exchange rates released on Monday, October 12, 2026.
The latest bulletin also listed the British pound at KSh171.67 and the euro at KSh145.32, giving an indication of the exchange rates for some of the major currencies used in international trade and financial transactions.
The Japanese yen was quoted at KSh81.94 for every 100 yen, according to the CBK figures.
Regional currencies were also included in the notice.
The Uganda shilling was listed at KSh31.21, while the Tanzania shilling stood at KSh20.34. The Rwandan franc was quoted at KSh11.36, while the South African rand traded at KSh7.84.
The rates offer a reference for individuals and businesses seeking information on the value of the Kenyan shilling against selected foreign currencies.
Such information is relevant to importers, exporters, travellers and other people who make payments or receive money across borders.
Businesses involved in international trade use foreign currencies to settle payments for goods and services, while travellers may need to exchange money when visiting other countries.
The published figures therefore provide a useful guide when comparing the value of the shilling against currencies used in different markets.
However, the CBK’s published rates should not be confused with the exact prices offered to customers at commercial banks and foreign exchange bureaus.
The rates available to customers may vary depending on the institution, the type of transaction and applicable charges.
The October 12 notice also directs members of the public to scan a QR code to access information on additional currencies. The bank has further encouraged the public to subscribe to its WhatsApp channel for updates.
The CBK publishes daily exchange rate information as part of its role in providing financial and monetary information to the public.
The latest bulletin lists eight currencies, including major international currencies and those used by Kenya’s regional trading partners.
