India has handed over a second consignment of medical supplies to Kenya to support efforts to prepare for and respond to Ebola, strengthening cooperation between the two countries in public health.

The 11-tonne shipment was officially handed over by the Indian High Commissioner to Kenya to Principal Secretary for Public Health Mary Muthoni on Monday, October 19, 2026.

The delivery follows an earlier batch of medical assistance provided in July, as India continues to support Kenya’s efforts to strengthen its readiness to manage potential Ebola cases and protect healthcare workers.

The consignment contains protective equipment and specialised medical supplies intended to improve safety in healthcare facilities and laboratories.

These include personal protective equipment (PPE) kits, powered air-purifying respirators, biosafety cabinets and cold-chain refrigerators.

The supplies are expected to help frontline health workers reduce their exposure to infection while improving the capacity of laboratories to handle potentially hazardous samples safely.

PPE kits provide essential protective clothing and equipment for medical personnel, while powered air-purifying respirators offer additional respiratory protection in high-risk environments.

Biosafety cabinets help contain infectious materials during laboratory procedures, while cold-chain refrigerators support the safe storage of temperature-sensitive medical supplies and specimens.

The assistance comes as Kenya continues to strengthen its public health preparedness and response systems against infectious disease threats.

Ebola outbreaks require rapid detection, safe laboratory testing, effective infection prevention measures and well-equipped healthcare workers to limit transmission.

The additional equipment is intended to support these efforts by improving the availability of specialised resources needed by health personnel working in potentially high-risk settings.

India said the latest delivery reflects its solidarity with Kenya as the country works to strengthen its capacity to contain Ebola and protect public health.

The assistance also highlights the longstanding relationship between Nairobi and New Delhi, particularly in the healthcare sector, where the two countries have continued to pursue cooperation and support initiatives.

The second consignment builds on the July delivery, extending India’s contribution to Kenya’s preparedness efforts through the provision of equipment for frontline protection and laboratory safety.

As countries continue to strengthen their ability to respond to emerging infectious diseases, access to protective equipment and reliable laboratory infrastructure remains an important part of preparedness planning.
