Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor and captain Sylvester Owino have expressed confidence ahead of their Kenyan Premier League clash against Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday.

The match, is scheduled to kick off at 2pm, presents another test for the league leaders, who are targeting maximum points as they seek to maintain their strong start to the season.

Akonnor says Gor Mahia will stick to their established playing approach but has not ruled out changes to the starting line-up as he looks to get the best out of his squad.

The coach believes competition for places within the team is healthy, giving more players an opportunity to prove themselves and fight for regular playing time.

With several players pushing for selection, Akonnor has the option of adjusting his team depending on the demands of the match.

The former Ghana international will, however, be keen to ensure any changes do not disrupt the team's rhythm as Gor Mahia look to extend their winning run.

Captain Owino has also acknowledged the challenge of facing Homeboyz on their home ground, where the hosts will be looking to use the backing of their supporters to their advantage.

Despite the difficulty of playing in Kakamega, the defender insists Gor Mahia are prepared for the encounter and focused on securing all three points.

The fixture pits two sides that have started the campaign positively, although Gor Mahia have an early advantage in the standings.

The record Kenyan champions sit top of the table with nine points from three matcheps, having won all their opening fixtures.

Kakamega Homeboyz, meanwhile, occupy sixth place with six points from two matches and will be hoping to use their home advantage to close the gap on the leaders.

A victory for Gor Mahia would strengthen their position at the summit and maintain their perfect start, while a win for Homeboyz would boost their early-season ambitions and bring them closer to the top.

With both teams eager to collect points, Wednesday's encounter at Bukhungu Stadium is expected to provide a stern test for the league leaders.
