Four people have been arrested in separate operations targeting suspected drug trafficking in Busia and Bungoma counties.

In Busia, detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigation Bureau (NANIB) stopped a Fuso lorry along the Busia–Kisumu Highway after receiving intelligence on suspected drug trafficking.

The lorry, registration number KDU 981Y, was reportedly transporting cereals to Nairobi.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 14 bales of cannabis hidden under dry cassava.

The drugs, packed in two sacks, weighed 59.15 kilogrammes and were estimated to have a street value of Sh1.77 million.

Two men, Evans Josiah Mugambi and Moses Murambula Odwera, were arrested during the operation.

In Bungoma, police officers on patrol along the Siritanyi–Mateka Road intercepted a grey Toyota Probox, registration number KCK 089M.

Officers searched the vehicle and found five bales of cannabis weighing seven kilogrammes. The drugs had been wrapped in yellow tape and placed inside a sack.

The two occupants, identified as Boaz Kwamba and Peter Ndungu, were arrested.

All four suspects remain in custody as they await processing and arraignment. The two vehicles and the recovered drugs have been kept as exhibits as investigations continue.
