Everton’s owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), are exploring the potential sale of a controlling stake in the Premier League club, less than two years after completing their takeover.

The American investment group announced on Friday, October 9, 2026, that it was considering new investment options, including selling a controlling interest in the Merseyside club.

“The Friedkin Group is exploring new investment options for Everton Football Club, including the potential sale of a controlling interest,” the club said in a statement.

TFG said Everton had faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges on and off the pitch when it took control. Its immediate priority was to provide stability, investment and support for the club’s future, including completing its long-awaited new stadium.

“With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton,” the statement said.

The owners added that they would only consider interest from parties they believe could take the club forward and build on the progress made under their ownership.

No completed sale or new buyer has been announced, meaning TFG remains in control of the club while it explores its options.

Led by billionaire Dan Friedkin, TFG acquired Everton through Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited in December 2024, ending Farhad Moshiri’s tenure as majority owner. The takeover was confirmed following the necessary regulatory approvals.

The acquisition followed a difficult period for Everton, which had faced financial uncertainty while working towards a move from Goodison Park to its new home at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The stadium, located at Bramley-Moore Dock in Liverpool, is a major part of the club’s long-term plans and provides new commercial opportunities as Everton seek to strengthen their position in English football.

The possible sale now raises questions about the club’s future ownership and the direction of investment under any new controlling shareholder.

TFG has not publicly identified a prospective buyer or provided a timetable for a potential transaction. The group has also said it will continue supporting Everton during the process and remain focused on the club’s progress on the pitch and its role in the local community.

For Everton supporters, the next development will be whether the search for investment leads to a change in control or a different arrangement that allows TFG to retain its stake.
