Equity Afya, a healthcare initiative by the Equity Group Foundation, has inaugurated its 134th outpatient medical facility in Kilifi town, marking a significant expansion of its healthcare network in the Coast region. The new facility is strategically located at High View Plaza along the bustling Mombasa-Malindi highway, positioning it to effectively serve the local population with a comprehensive range of general and specialist health services.
During the launch, Dr. Harrison Genya, the facility's doctor in charge, highlighted the importance of this expansion in fulfilling the mission to make quality medical care more accessible to the residents of Kilifi County. "The facility provides a range of services including dental care, nursing, maternal and child healthcare, eye care, ultrasound, nutrition services, consultations with doctors, among other key services," Dr. Genya stated. He noted that this new branch is the second in Kilifi County and the tenth in the Coast region, underscoring the initiative's commitment to bridging healthcare gaps.
Dr. Genya emphasized the critical role of outreach centers like Equity Afya in addressing the healthcare disparities prevalent in the region and the country at large. "The opening of this facility symbolizes hope and inclusion for many Kenyans who rely on private providers like Equity Afya," he remarked. He pointed out the pressing need to improve access, given that Kenya's health facility-to-population ratio stands at a concerning 2.4 per 10,000.
Equity Afya Managing Director Dennis Ogola reiterated the center's commitment to quality and convenience in healthcare delivery. "This facility is not just a building; it's a promise to deliver quality and accessible care to the people of Kilifi. The center will uphold the quality standards that define our care, with well-trained staff," Ogola assured. He also revealed that Equity Afya operates five other branches in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), demonstrating the initiative's broader regional impact.
The facility is designed to cater to both individuals and families, aiming to enhance early detection, outpatient care, and overall health outcomes across the Coast region.
