Residents of Samburi in Kwale County are celebrating a significant milestone following the completion of the 58-kilometre Samburu-Kinango road. This infrastructural development is expected to be a game-changer for the local economy, providing a much-needed boost to various economic activities in the region. The road project, which was recently completed, has been met with gratitude from the local community, who have long awaited such an improvement.
The residents have expressed their appreciation to the president for prioritizing the road project, which they believe will transform their lives. Speaking to the media in Kwale County on Tuesday, Oscar Kusi, a resident of Vigurungani, highlighted the positive impact the road has had on the community. "For decades, Kinango was not recognised because of the poor roads. People faced transport challenges, especially during the rainy seasons. Business has not been thriving because businessmen from other counties such as Mombasa and Taita Taveta found it hard to get to our markets," said Kusi. The improved road network is expected to alleviate these challenges, making the region more accessible and attractive to traders and investors.
Mwahanje Mangale Sindi from Donje village echoed Kusi's sentiments, noting that the construction of the road has also led to a reduction in traffic-related accidents. The improved road conditions have enhanced safety for both motorists and pedestrians, a development that has been warmly welcomed by the community. "The number of traffic-related accidents has reduced significantly," Sindi remarked, underscoring the broader benefits of the road project beyond economic gains.
David Mwaka Muema, another resident from Vigurungani, shared his observations on the expansion of business activities following the tarmacking of the road. "Transporting products such as beans, sukuma wiki, bread, and soda was quite hard. Currently, everything is available in our shopping malls," noted Muema. The improved road infrastructure has facilitated the easier movement of goods, leading to a more vibrant local economy and better access to essential commodities for residents.
The completion of the Samburu-Kinango road marks a significant step towards enhancing connectivity within Kwale County. It is expected to spur further development in the region, attracting more businesses and improving the quality of life for the residents. As the community continues to reap the benefits of this project, there is optimism that such infrastructural developments will continue to be prioritized, paving the way for a brighter future for the people of Kwale County.
