Enock Peterson Mwangi, alias Mwamburi Mwandeme, is expected to appear in court on Monday, October 12, over suspected child trafficking and defilement after four children were found with him in Isinya, Kajiado County.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued a clarification on Saturday, October 10, after its social media updates prompted questions about whether the 62-year-old suspect had been arrested twice in the same case.
The agency said its September 4 and October 8 posts concerned the same investigation and that the suspect had neither been released nor re-arrested.
According to the DCI, the October 8 update was intended to highlight further investigative activity, including a search at a house associated with Mwangi in Mashuuru Township. The agency acknowledged that the wording of the post had inadvertently created the impression of a second arrest and apologised for the confusion.
The clarification followed the initial operation at Korompoi Trading Centre in Isinya, where detectives reportedly found Mwangi in a bedsitter with four children aged 17, 16, five and one year and four months.
The discovery prompted investigators to establish the circumstances under which the children came to be in his custody.
During the subsequent search in Mashuuru Township, detectives recovered bags containing children’s clothing in different sizes, baby shawls, blankets, a baby carrier and shoes.
Other items included adult male clothing, six mattresses, empty diaper carrier bags, duvets, pillows and assorted foodstuffs. The items were recovered as part of the ongoing investigation, although their significance has not been established publicly.
The DCI said the four children had been placed under appropriate care and protection and were expected to undergo medical examinations as detectives continued gathering evidence.
The agency maintained that investigations were ongoing and reiterated its commitment to pursuing the case through the legal process.
Mwangi’s expected court appearance marks the next step in the investigation. The proceedings are expected to clarify the formal charges, while the allegations against him remain subject to due process.
