Police in Kwale County are holding a primary school teacher accused of defiling a minor, a case that has sent shockwaves through the community. The suspect, Mathias Mramba, a 30-year-old teacher at Kiruku Primary School in Lunga Lunga Sub County, is alleged to have committed the heinous act over a period of two weeks. He is currently detained at Diani police station as investigations continue.

The incident came to light after the family of the 16-year-old girl reported her missing. According to Msambweni sub-county police commander Nehemiah Bitok, the girl disappeared on 26 June under unclear circumstances. The family, distressed by her sudden disappearance, notified the police, who later found her in Ratinga, Ukunda, several days after she went missing.

The victim has recounted a harrowing ordeal, alleging that Mramba locked her in a dark, cold room filled with scattered knives, where he threatened her life before defiling her daily. She also claimed that Mramba had an accomplice who assisted in the crime. "There was another man who forcefully held me when I refused to give in myself to the teacher," the girl narrated, her voice breaking with emotion. She recalled the day of her abduction, stating, "I met with the two men, one of them greeted me, and the next thing I remember is finding myself locked up in a strange room."

The girl's parents are now demanding justice for their daughter, urging the authorities to take swift action against the perpetrators. Meanwhile, Kwale County Commander Joseph Nthenge has raised concerns over the rising cases of defilement in the region, noting that over 18 cases have been reported between March and July alone. This alarming trend has prompted police to intensify their efforts in pursuing the second suspect, who remains at large.

The accused teacher, Mathias Mramba, is set to be arraigned in court on Monday. In the wake of this incident, police commander Nehemiah Bitok has issued a stern warning to parents, urging them to be vigilant and responsible for their children's safety. The case continues to unfold as the community awaits justice for the young victim.
