Brighton & Hove Albion delivered a statement performance at the Coventry Building Society Arena, sweeping aside Coventry City 5–0 in a one-sided Premier League contest.
The Seagulls gradually took control after Charalambos Kostoulas broke the deadlock in the 35th minute.
Coventry had moments where they threatened to stay in the contest, but Brighton’s quality and composure ultimately proved too much.
Malick Yalcouyé doubled the advantage six minutes after the restart before Coventry’s afternoon went from difficult to disastrous when Taiwo Awoniyi was shown a red card in the 53rd minute.
Playing against ten men, Brighton took complete command. Pascal Groß converted from the penalty spot in the 70th minute before captain Lewis Dunk produced the moment of the match, unleashing a spectacular 30-yard strike to make it 4–0.
Yasin Ayari completed the rout deep into stoppage time, sealing Brighton’s joint-biggest away win in Premier League history.
For Brighton, the result was more than just three points. Their attacking efficiency, control in possession and ruthlessness in front of goal underline why they are among the league's early scoring leaders.
For Coventry and Frank Lampard, however, the afternoon exposed serious problems.
The Sky Blues remain without a point and without a goal since their return to the Premier League — a worrying start that leaves them with plenty to address.
