Angry morans have barricaded the busy Suswa-Narok Highway at Suswa Centre in Narok County.
According to a report from police officers in the area, this follows an alleged incident in which a runaway motorist reportedly ran over at least 10 goats.
Police are at the scene as efforts continue to restore order and clear the highway.
The latest incident comes against a history of livestock-related road accidents along the Suswa-Narok corridor, where herders regularly move animals between grazing areas and water points.
Police and local reports have previously warned that livestock crossing or resting on the highway poses a serious danger, particularly at night and during dry periods when animals move longer distances in search of pasture.
In May 2026, a lorry collided with a herd of cattle near Enkare Restaurant along the Narok-Suswa road, killing two cows and injuring four others.
Police subsequently urged livestock owners to keep animals away from major roads and called on motorists to exercise caution in areas frequently used by livestock.
The area has witnessed even larger livestock losses in previous years.
In November 2016, a lorry reportedly ran over more than 100 sheep along the Narok-Mai Mahiu road, triggering protests by residents demanding compensation.
The report also recalled an earlier incident in November 2012 in which a vehicle ran over 42 goats near Suswa Trading Centre.
In January 2025, tensions escalated dramatically at Duka Moja after a vehicle knocked down about 25 sheep at Mitimbili.
Thousands of residents barricaded the Narok-Mai Mahiu Highway demanding compensation.
The confrontation with police left several officers injured, with one officer suffering the loss of his hand.
The recurring incidents have made livestock and road safety a major concern along the busy corridor, with authorities repeatedly calling for greater vigilance by motorists and better control of animals near the highway.
