Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has blamed the milk shortage on panic buying, saying some consumers are purchasing large quantities for fear of running out.
Speaking in the Senate, Kagwe said milk production had declined by only **five per cent** due to the ongoing drought.
He said the government had put measures in place to ensure adequate milk supply, adding that expected El Niño rains would improve availability of livestock feed.
On sugar imports, Kagwe said the country currently has enough sugar and ruled out importing milk from other countries.
He, however, raised concerns over delays in electing the Sugar Board, blaming multiple court cases for slowing down the process and affecting operations in the sector.
