Consumer Group Takes Sh93.7bn Oil Storage Deal to Court
The Consumer Federation of Kenya (Cofek) has asked the High Court to stop a Sh93.68 billion crude oil storage agreement between the government and Gulf Energy, and the court has certified the petition as urgent. Cofek says the agreement, signed on August 26, gives Gulf Energy E&P B.V. the right to use Kipevu Oil Terminal II in Mombasa for crude oil storage and handling for 25 years, and it wants the court to decide whether the process that led to the deal was fair, transparent and competitive.
