Two women have been charged with conspiracy to defraud over allegations that a customer lost KSh530,000 in a deal involving the supply of 7,500 chicks that were never delivered.

The suspects, Marysella Naswa Kanda and Angela Kendi, were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ngong, where they faced charges under Section 317 of the Penal Code.

The court granted each suspect cash bail of KSh250,000 or an alternative bond of KSh300,000. The case is scheduled for mention on November 9, 2026.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the complainant reported the matter at Kiserian Police Station after paying for the chicks but receiving none of the ordered birds.

The 7,500 chicks were valued at KSh1,387,500, while the complainant reportedly paid KSh530,000 towards the transaction.

Investigations indicate that the first payment of KSh350,000 was made on September 13, 2026, to a Co-operative Bank account operated under Japlead Global Feed, which was reportedly owned by Marysella.

A further payment of KSh180,000 was deposited into the same account on September 16, 2026, after the complainant was allegedly promised delivery of the chicks before the scheduled date.

However, the chicks were not delivered despite the payments, prompting the complainant to seek police intervention.

Following the report, officers from Kiserian Police Station launched investigations into the alleged fraud.

Detectives later conducted an undercover operation in which they posed as prospective customers seeking to place orders for chicks.

The operation led to Marysella’s arrest in Kitengela, with assistance from local police officers. Angela was also arrested in connection with the case as detectives pursued the complaint.

The two suspects were subsequently presented before the court, where they were formally charged and granted bail as the matter proceeds through the judicial process.

The DCI said the arrests followed investigations into the complaint, which centred on the alleged failure to supply the chicks after receiving payment.

The case will return to court on November 9, 2026, for mention.
