Two foreign nationals were found dead with suspected gunshot wounds to the head at Meteor Garden Apartments along Chania Avenue in Kilimani, Nairobi, on Tuesday morning, October 13, as police launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The deceased were identified as Nguyen Hong Ngoc, a Vietnamese woman, and Xu Zhiyu, a Chinese man, who reportedly lived together in the apartment where their bodies were discovered.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said investigators recovered a handwritten note suspected to be a suicide note from the scene. The note is undergoing analysis as detectives seek to establish the possible motive behind the incident.

Police suspect that one of the two may have shot and killed the other before turning the firearm on himself. However, investigators have not conclusively established the sequence of events leading to their deaths.

According to police, the incident was reported by the apartment manager, who said they heard gunshots from unit A506 at around 10 a.m.

The apartment was locked from the inside, preventing immediate access. Police were called to the scene, and the building’s management subsequently opened the unit using a spare key.

Officers who entered the apartment found the two bodies seated side by side on a mattress in the sitting room, with suspected gunshot wounds to the head.

A BUL 9mm pistol, a magazine loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition and two spent 9mm cartridges were recovered from the scene alongside the handwritten note.

Crime Scene Investigation officers from the Nairobi Region processed the apartment as detectives began examining the evidence.

The bodies were later moved to Chiromo Funeral Parlour, where they await postmortem examinations to help establish the cause of death.

Investigators are also probing the possible motive and examining the ownership of the recovered firearm to establish whether it was legally licensed.

Mohamud further added that the circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear as experts continued working on the case.

Although police are considering the possibility of a suicide pact, the investigation remains ongoing, with detectives expected to rely on forensic evidence, the recovered note and postmortem findings to establish what happened inside the apartment.
