Detectives have arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing of a shoe trader near Kariokor Market in Nairobi, as investigations into the killing continue.

The victim, identified as Paul Mwangangi, was reportedly stabbed along Landhies Road, opposite the Muthurwa Market footbridge, on October 12, 2026.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers who responded to the scene found Mwangangi lying face down with a stab wound to his chest.

Crime Scene Investigation officers examined the scene and documented evidence that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the attack. The body was subsequently moved to City Mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Detectives launched investigations into the killing and pursued leads that eventually led them to two suspects in Kayole.

The operation involved officers from the DCI Central and Kamukunji offices, working alongside detectives from the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Office.

Acting on intelligence gathered during the investigations, the team traced the suspects to a hideout in Kayole, where they were arrested.

The suspects have been identified as Joseph Kimani Ndungu, alias Bajong, and Peter Kimani Githinji, alias Denoo.

They were taken to Kamukunji Police Station and placed in custody as detectives continued gathering evidence in the case.

During the operation, officers recovered a Maasai sword bearing suspected bloodstains. Detectives believe the weapon could be linked to the fatal stabbing and have secured it as an exhibit for further forensic examination.

The analysis is expected to help investigators establish whether the recovered weapon is connected to the attack on Mwangangi.

The DCI has expressed condolences to the deceased trader’s family, friends and fellow traders following his death, saying investigations remain ongoing.

Detectives are continuing to piece together the events leading to the killing and establish the circumstances under which the trader was attacked along Landhies Road.

The arrest of the two suspects marks a development in the investigation, although further inquiries are required before the case proceeds to court.

The suspects remain in police custody pending further investigations and arraignment.
