Police in Kitui County have arrested two suspected narcotics traffickers in separate incidents after intercepting consignments of cannabis sativa. In the first incident at Kitui Police Station, 24-year-old Dickens Tito was arrested after allegedly attempting to smuggle bhang into the station disguised as a meal for a remandee. Police officers inspecting the parcel of rice reportedly discovered 69 rolls of bhang and 33 matchsticks hidden inside the food package. In a separate incident along the Thika–Garissa Highway at Kanyonyoo, a multi-agency security team intercepted a Public Service Vehicle travelling from Kitui to Embu. During a routine luggage search, officers discovered a pink briefcase in the rear boot, which was identified as belonging to 29-year-old Justice Kabila Njanja. The officers' thorough search revealed that the briefcase contained 13 bales of cannabis sativa wrapped in yellow sealing tape. This interception demonstrates the collaborative efforts of various security agencies in tackling drug trafficking along major transport routes.
Both suspects were arrested and remain in custody as investigations continue ahead of their arraignment.
