Tobias Messo emerged as the standout performer at the KenGen Golf Tournament held at the scenic Kericho Golf Club over the weekend. The tournament, which drew a competitive field of over 80 golfers from clubs including Kisii, Nakuru, and Njoro, showcased some of the finest amateur golfing talent in the region. Messo's composed and consistent play saw him clinch the top honours in Division Two with a commendable 23 points. His impressive performance also earned him the Overall Nett title, solidifying his status as the tournament's biggest winner.

The event was played under the Stableford format, a popular scoring system in golf that awards points based on the number of strokes taken at each hole, with the aim of encouraging aggressive play. The challenging greens and shifting weather conditions at the Kericho course tested the players' skill and adaptability, making consistency a crucial factor across all divisions.

In Division One, Reuben Langat delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 37 points to edge out Lawrence Tesot by a single point in one of the tournament's most closely contested battles. Langat's exceptional round also secured him the Overall Gross title, underscoring his prowess among low-handicap players. Meanwhile, in Division Three, Dennis Yegon carded 37 points to claim victory, narrowly defeating Fernandes Korir in another tight finish.

Tournament organisers expressed satisfaction with both the turnout and the level of play, noting that the KenGen event continues to attract golfers from across the country. This tournament serves as a crucial platform for nurturing talent and strengthening ties between clubs. "The competition was stiff, but that’s what makes the game exciting. We are seeing more players coming in from different clubs, which is good for the growth of golf in the region," said one organiser.

The Kericho Golf Club, renowned for its lush greens and demanding layout, once again provided a rigorous test of both skill and mental resilience for the participants. Speaking after his victory, Tobias Messo attributed his success to discipline and focus. "The course demanded patience and smart shot selection. I stayed disciplined throughout the round," Messo remarked.

The tournament highlighted the rising competitiveness of amateur golf in the region, with players bringing both experience and flair to the fairways of Kericho. As the KenGen Golf Tournament continues to grow in stature, it promises to further enhance the profile of golf in Kenya, encouraging more participation and fostering a vibrant golfing community.
