A 27-year-old man has been arrested and a firearm recovered following a security operation at Club Cluster in Piai, Mwea East, Kirinyaga County.

The suspect, identified as Jamleck Kariuki Grace, was arrested by officers from Itangi Police Station after members of the public provided intelligence regarding the suspected possession of a firearm.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the officers responded swiftly to the tip-off and apprehended the suspect at the establishment.

A search conducted on the suspect reportedly led to the recovery of a Retay Falcon pistol tucked on the right side of his waist.

Police also found one live round of ammunition lodged in the pistol's chamber, alongside two spent cartridges.

The circumstances under which the suspect acquired or came to possess the firearm remain unclear, with investigators working to establish the details surrounding the incident.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Authorities are expected to establish whether the recovered firearm was used in any criminal activity and determine whether additional charges may be warranted.
