Six people were killed on Wednesday after a helicopter crashed in Zimbabwe’s Marondera rural area, east of the capital, Harare, government spokesperson Nick Mangwana said.
Mangwana said the helicopter was carrying a high-profile businessman, three other passengers and two pilots when it crashed.
He said police would confirm the identities of the victims once the formal identification process was completed.
Local online news outlet ZimLive reported that businessman Wicknell Chivayo was among those on board, although authorities had not immediately confirmed his identity.
Police said earlier that an aircraft carrying six people crashed in the area at around 5 p.m. local time (1500 GMT), prompting emergency services to respond to the scene.
Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said the victims’ bodies were badly burned, making formal identification necessary.
